Has Senator McCain’s “Straight-Talk Express” Takes a U-Turn?

Sign the online petition!

Urge Senator McCain to ‘talk straight’ with the American people about whether he plans to campaign for President within the limitations of the Presidential Public Financing System.  Ask him why he doesn’t seem to be willing to abide by similar speech limitations to those that he seeks to further impose on the American people.

  1. Sue Petit says:

As a Vietnam Veteran with the history to make him an American Hero, why is he so willing to deny the public the real meaning of the Constitution of the United States of America?

  2. Joseph Summers says:

Have you Ever read the 1st amendment???????

  3. Nancy A. Welsh says:

You must not violate our first amendment rights.

  4. Don Schoenemann says:

Quit trying to take away our 1st amendment right.

  5. James Hixon says:

If John McCain voted like a Republican conservative instead of a “RINO” he wouldn’t have co-sponsored legislation to restrict constituents from being informed of their elected representatives’ voting records preceeding an election.

You can’t expect “straight talk” from a man who helps to devise an unconstitutional bill which restricts free speech.

It’s obvious that McCain and his colleagues devised this bill in order to help insulate themselves from political repurcusions while sneaking future garbage legilsation through.

How can anyone believe a man who claims to be honest but doesn’t even deal in “good faith” with those he claims to represent?

In contrast, Tom Tancredo or Ron Paul are GENUINE conservative choices for 2008!

  6. Nancy Marie Regets says:

    Do not run in 2008.

  7. Karl Krahmer says:

As was predicted by many of your fellow republicans, your McCain-Feingold Act has done nothing to remove money from politics. It has only revoked our Constitutionally guaranteed free speech. The same Constitiution you so heroically defended over in Vietnam.

  8. Linda Rapoza says:

I would never vote for McCain not only because he’s trampled our Constitutional right to free speech in his fascist bill with Russ Feingold, but because of the pure nonsense he defended in the Senate when traitors, who call themselves Congressmen, were accusing our military of torture. (You’d think he’d remember what torture was, wouldn’t you?) This makes him an opportunist of the worse kind.

  9. Nancy Pitcher says:

I thought that the Democrats were the ones that wanted to take our First Amendment rights away, but then along came John McCain, the would be hero of the Republican Party, saviour of the people. Oh, boy, how ludicrous can it get? A guy who was a bona fide hero during the Vietnam War, who was not allowed to communicate because he was imprisioned, now suddenly wants us all to shut up and go away. Good thing that we have the First Amendment, or he’d get away with it!

  10. Richard Jauch says:

John McCain is one of the most UnAmerican persons in the U.S. Government.
The McCain-Feingold bill is totally against the public’s right to expression and they all know it.

But don’t forget the others that allowed that bill to pass by voting on it, then the Moron in Chief that didn’t have the brains (doesn’t) to veto it and the U.S. Supreme Court that demonstrated it has no brains, collectively, than the Senate and the President.

Shame on all of them??? No, you can’t shame a moron because they are not smart enough to understand what you are talking about.

  11. Kurt Eskildsen says:

Years ago when the name “John McCain” entered my ears it provoked a sense of pride because I knew what he endured in Viet Nam and how he conducted himself while under unimaginable living conditions. ( that was torture.. not like in Iraq where a handful of immature, poorly trained soldiers played some humiliating pranks on a group of evil murderers.)

Today when I hear that same name I shake my head and wonder what happened to make him become what he now is, an oppressing, opportunistic RINO. What made him turn into the type of person that he once despised? Too many years amongst so many like that in government? Who knows? But it is a shame.

It leaves me with a sick feeling when I see someone that was once a hero become just another corrupt government official. I got the same feeling when Randy “Duke” Cunningham was caught being on “the take” and ended up in jail.

  12. Kurt Eskildsen says:

I have to concur with Richard above.. We shouldn’t forget all of those that allowed this type of bill make it through both Houses of Congress and not get VETOed. McCain had plenty of accomplices on McCain / Feingold.

  13. mike johnson says:

    MR. McCain,
You make it hard to find your core beleifs when you change for each situation. Not that we would vote for you now, but are you going to disclose your finance’s sources??

  14. Larry Reams says:

    Senator,

I’m a real conservative republican, not a RINO. You’ve got only three things going for you for 2008; you’re strong on stopping pork; you’re tough on terrorism; and you’re a media darling. All are important but there’s still a lot more to be desired in a conservative, republican president. And you’ve ridden the War Hero thing far enough. You’re weak on social issues, family values, stopping illegal immigration and a few other matters we conservatives want. And Oh, the can of worms you opened with McCain-Feingold, not to mention your abuse of our First Amendment rights. Tell us Senator, do you plan to use public financing for your campaign, or take “special interest” money? Please let us know. It is relevant, don’t you think, to us knowing the true John McCain.

  15. Wayne Whiting says:

    Senator,
For years you have put forth the statement that you are a Conservative following in the footsteps of Barry Goldwater but your conduct as a Senator makes you an embarrassment to his memory. If you cannot abide by the Laws that you wrote and had enacted, you are no different from any petty dictator. I myself, served 28 years in the US Navy, so that people such as you can have the freedom guaranteed in the Constitution, not for you and people like you, who would trample on these freedoms. Show some principle Senator, if you can, and abide by the Campaign Finance Law that you were instrumental in foisting on the Citizens of America.

  16. Ed Devine says:

Do we really need another elderly, RINO sellout as President? The Senators delusional stance on immigration reform makes his candidacy a ticking time-bomb. Certainly the GOP will be forced to run whichever “money man” they have left against whatever the Democrats plan on running, but a presidential campaign that could cost over 100 million dollars, would seem contrary to the founding fathers vision of citizen legislators. Unfortunately, staying home isn’t an option that voters can tolerate. Please, someone, anyone with the courage to stand up for America’s citizens, enter this race as an independent, give Americans a choice!

  17. Bill R. Cottrell says:

I have been greatly offended and disgusted in Senator McCain’s stand on so many things and this McCain-Feingold bill is a total afront to the First Amendment of “Free Speech.” It is iinteresting to note that McCain now does not want to live by the rules he has made for everyone else – but then this is Nothing new from Washington, D. C. Our congressional representatives are NOT our representatives anymore – they do not listen to their home citizens’ voices!! Even being from Arizona, he has not taken a firm enough stand on illegal immigration, and when I retire and possibly move to Arizona, I will ABSOLUTELY vote against him; he does not even care for his own state or is he just wanting the illegal immagrant’s votes.

  18. Toni M Cottrell says:

While I used to have much respect for John McCain, being a Vietnam prisoner of war, and commend him along with all the other captives, for his bravery and the tremendous hardship he had to endure. My husband was a Medic in the Vietnam War. BUT, Senator McCain is not a conservative but has been in bed with the DemoRats for a long time, and there really is not difference between him and their ilk. He is a traitor to the conservatives in America!!!

  19. John Wirts says:

I feel greatly offended that this”RULER” of the Republican party would limit free speech by the people but won’t commit to limiting himself! He has betrayed the Republican party and the American People!!!

  20. Dave and Lora Brown says:

McCain is a traitor, a socialist Demo~RAT in GOP clothing out to undermine America. Old retire rich yankee liberals who moved to Azonia put this peice of work in office and so far he has been and voted ANTI~AMERICAN. Should have left his sorry rump in ‘Nam. He was rite at home there.
    Dave

  21. Don & Alvera kincart says:

I am a former Marine and I dont buy McCain’ hero status. He knows damn well most citizens are against his amnisty bill. He allways seems to work with Ted Kennedy,or Fiengold or any liberal (Mary joe copekne cant be reached for commenty).
I would much rather see Newt Gingritch on the ticket

  22. I not only agree with the general appraisal of McCain being a traitor to individual liberty and the principles upon which it rests, but am also seething with disgust at the fact that the Republican Party hasn’t made an official call for McCain’s ouster from the Party.

The man has no business calling himself a “Republican”; were he to do a Jeffords-Jump, I’d stand up and cheer. Yes, the GOP would lose yet another Senate seat, but the question will always be: “Of what value is ‘more Republicans in Congress,’ when those ‘Republicans’ are indistinguishable in their policies from the worst Democrat-Socialist hacks?” If McCain were compelled to call himself a Demo-Socialist at least the right party would be getting the blame for his noxious, anti-American policies.

As for this petition, I’m similarly frustrated in its timidity: It should be a petition not for McCain to abide by his own rules, but rather a petition FOR THE FULL, FINAL AND PERMANENT REPEAL of the McCain/Feingold/Shays/Meehand First-Amendment-Arsewipe-Transformation Act of 2003.

It MUST be repealed, if America, Western Civilization and individual liberty (which is actually a redundancy,) are to have a future.

Republicans are traditionally horrible at political activism – something that must change, and fast. We need to grab for bigger prizes, because our enemies certainly do at every opportunity – which is why our government is a vast, bloated, slobbering pig that squashes new areas of our nearly-obliterated freedom every day. The pending obliteration of our right to speak, print, assemble is the beginning of the end – if we don’t treat its repeal as a life-or-death war, then it is indeed death we choose, by default.

  23. Pauline Hill says:

McCain may be a RINO , but he is the only Snowball that has a slim
    chance against Hillary or O.B.O.

  24. Martin Rudd says:

It shows the American people that our politicians will do whatever it takes to motivate and expand their agendas at even the cost of limiting the voices of whom they choose.
This is chilling indedd to know that we have folks like Senator McCain and others in the Democratic party taking this to a new low.
God help America, for He has certainly blessed it over the years.
I’m afraid this will eventually back-fire on the Senator as he pushes his agenda.
I’m in hope that the Christians in America will get their heads out of the sand and look up. Because we’re certainly headed for some dire trouble not from abroad, but from within our own political system.

  25. Raymond Miller says:

The only way I would ever vote for McCain is if he were to run against Hillery, outher wise he can go to hell along with my free speech rites.
Besides I don’t trust him and think he is a nut case. After all he has done to undermine Pres. Bush, the man who we elected with the greatest number of votes ever.

  26. Don Lloyd says:

McCain is a hero turned sour by political power. A true RINO, he has teamed up with
Fiengold and other liberals to promote a far left agenda.
AND CONSERVATIVES ARE NOT BUYING IT!
Not only is he trying to make void our first amendment rights. He is also intent upon selling us out to the hordes of illegal immigrants who have, and are invading our land. No thanks,McCain.I’ll cast my vote for Newt, Tom, Ron, or any conservative who is worthy of the title:” Champion of Freedom, Defender of the Free.”

  27. Robert Ligon says:

    Senator,

You have been on the wrong side of every important issue since you were exposed as a member of the corrupt Keating Five senators who were disgraced several years ago.

You have been an enemy of the conservative base in this country, the 1st Amendment, the 2nd Amendment, the effeiveness of our national defense and the Republican Party.

Your support for illegal aliens flooding into this country may well destroy the future of the culture of America, which has done more for world advancement than any other culture which has ever existed on this planet. You would destroy “the last great hope of Mankind”

Do America a favor and move to Mexico.

  28. Bill Compton says:

  29. Larry Logan says:

Go Home and stay there John.

  30. Donna says:

  31. Donna says:
